Assessing Digital Learning

As Erika Peña, Ileana Reyna, and I began to implement a blended learning model during the 2021-2022 school year, our primary goal was to increase student engagement and motivation in order to create personalized learning opportunities in a student-centered classroom while closing academic gaps due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

This school year, our Dyslexia students and a 4th-grade classroom integrated new adaptive learning programs, within a blended learning environment. These adaptive digital programs, Lexia Core5 and i-Ready provided students with personalized learning paths that increased student engagement and motivation. Classrooms were shifted from a teacher-centered model to a student-centered that provided an equitable learning environment.

This course allowed us to collaborate on an action plan and revisit our literature review to make connections to our main goal in our innovation plan, Blended Learning: Personalizing the future of Education .  By delving into qualitative and quantitative research and new journal articles we were able to provide the knowledge we gained and the successes our students acquired from the benefits of implementing a blended learning environment while integrating adaptive learning programs

Action Research Outline

Our action research outline provides an insight into the successes of implementing a blended learning model with adaptive digital programs.

Our research analyzed whether the use of Lexia Core5 and i-Ready adaptive programs, during the 2021-2022 school year, helped close learning gaps, leading to higher motivation and student growth.

Literature Review

Our literature review investigates the benefits of implementing a blended learning environment with the use of adaptive digital programs. The goal of our literature review set out to make the correlation between students' academic achievement and motivation at the elementary level, specifically in reading and students with Dyslexia. We also highlighted the challenges educators may face in a blended learning environment.

Action Research Plan

As we continue moving towards influencing the implementation of a blended learning model on our campus, we chose to research our district's adaptive learning programs, Lexia Core5 and i-Ready. These two programs provided students with the opportunity to learn at their own pace and path with increased motivation and academic success. This Action Plan will provide information and evidence for our claims.
